Via Sistina is a street in the center of Rome which connects Piazza Trinità dei Monti with Piazza Barberini. From Trinità dei Monti, the street belongs to the Campo Marzio neighbourhood until the intersection with Via Francesco Crispi; up to Piazza Barberini it is part of the Colonna neighbourhood.
This street was opened by Pope Sisto V towards the end of the sixteenth century. The Pope wanted to connect the Pincio with the Basilica of Santa Croce in Jerusalem, passing through Santa Maria Maggiore, through the mountains of Rome, east of the historic centre. In the 18th century, this long road, which reached more than 2 kilometers in length, was split and assumed different names: from Piazza Esquilino we now have via Depretis, which borders the Viminale and crossed the modern via Nazionale, goes onto via delle Quattro Fontane and only towards the end of the street we have Via Sistina.
At the center of the square Barberini stands the Tritone Fountain, done by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1643. A visit to Via Veneto, whose fame is due to Federico Fellini's 'La Dolce Vita' (1960), one of his masterpieces, cannot be missed.
On the way you can visit the ancient ossuary of the Capuchin Friars at the Church of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, or you can stop and go shopping among many trendy shops or have a coffee in the famous cafes of Via Veneto.
The Sistine Theater, inaugurated on December 28, 1949 as a cinema-theatre, is located in front of the apartment.
